How to Fix a Clogged AC Drain Line

⚠️ Signs Your Drain Line is Clogged

✔️ Water leaking around your indoor unit
✔️ AC shutting off unexpectedly
✔️ Musty or moldy smells coming from vents
✔️ Full or overflowing drain pan

🛠️ Steps to Unclog Your Drain Line

1️⃣ Turn Off Your AC – Shut off power at the thermostat and breaker to prevent damage.
2️⃣ Locate the Drain Line – Typically found near the indoor air handler (a PVC pipe leading outside).
3️⃣ Check for Blockages – Look for visible debris at the pipe’s exit point.
4️⃣ Use a Wet/Dry Vacuum – Attach the vacuum to the drain line’s end outside and run it for 1-2 minutes to pull out the clog.
5️⃣ Flush with Vinegar or Water – Pour a mix of white vinegar and warm water (or hot water and dish soap) into the drain line to break down buildup.
6️⃣ Check the Drain Pan – If water is still pooling, the clog may be deeper and require professional help.
